Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) and Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF) jointly celebrate Makara Sankranti at Adi Sankara Nilayam (maternal birth-home of Sri Adi Sankaracharya) on 15 January 2023. Special Lakshmi Narayana Puja and Havan will be performed by Sri Satish. The puja will be LIVE streamed through Chinmaya Channel (YouTube) from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM IST.
Makara Sankranti is celebrated every
year in the month of Magha (January-February). It is a festival dedicated to
the Surya Devata, Bhagavan Vishnu and Devi Mahalakshmi. The day also marks the
beginning of the harvest season and is celebrated as an offering of gratitude to
Mother Nature. Makara Sankranti is known by various names throughout India,
such as Bihu (Assam), Lohri (Punjab), Pongal (Tamil Nadu) and so on. The
festival is usually celebrated by making colourful decorations, flying kites, offering
puja and havan to Sri Lakshmi Narayana and so on.
On this auspicious day Bhagavan Sri
Narayana, along with Sridevi and Bhudevi, will be invoked both in Vigraha and
Agni. An elaborate shodasopacara puja will be offered to the Lord of the Universe
– Sri Narayana. Bhagavan will then be worshipped with Vishnu Sahasranama Homam
accompanied by homams dedicated to Bhagya Sukta, Sri Sukta, Ayushya Sukta and
Purush Sukta.
