Through three chapters the Taittiriya Upanishad assists the seeker to ultimately realise the nature of oneself as Satyam Jnanam Anantham Brahma.
The first chapter deals with the injunctions prescribed for a Sadhaka and then proceeds with Atma-vichara through a specific methodology outlined in the second chapter. In the final chapter, through the interaction between Guru and Shishya, the Upanishad gives the ultimate knowledge of the absolute Truth.
The different sections of the Upanisads can be classified as:
Brahmananda-valli – This section is the philosophical essence of the Upanishad, scientific and analytical. Attainment of Brahman is pointed as the goal, which is the core of the seeker himself and, ultimately, this centre of the different concentric whirls of his own personality is brought within the cognition of the seeker, by making him realise fully each of the outer layers of matters around him. One by one these outer layers are transcended and the individual is ultimately made to become fully aware of the innermost essence.
Bhrigu-valli – This section deals with the practical application of the philosophical theories propounded in the earlier sections. The section emphasises the need for constant enquiry and consistent meditation for a student to enjoy guaranteed success on the path of Vedanta.
Swami Chinmayananda, through his lucid and eloquent commentary, has brought out the uniqueness of this important Upanishad, which occupies an unrivalled place in the Divine tradition of Sanatana Dharma.
