About the texts covered in the Webinar
Swamiji will be expounding on the following Suktams:
Sri Suktam: This magnificent suktam from the Rigveda, is closely related to the description and worship of Sri Trigunatmika Mahamaya, the conjunction of the three gunas, is the creative urge of Purusha, who manifests as the powers of desire, knowledge and action. She is the resplendent, Divine Mother of the Universe, who not only gave birth to it but protects and sustains it as well. By the power of Mahamaya, we perceive One Brahman as the multiplicity of the world.
There are 15 mantras in this Suktam – each one is distinct, with different metres, composed by different sages and worships Mother in different forms of Mahalakshmi. The prayers are for Her grace and blessings to bestow upon us material prosperity, protections from all negative forces and final Liberation.
Medha Suktam: Medha Suktam from the Yajurveda beseeches Indra, Agni, Ashvini Kumaras, Surya and also goddess Saraswati to grant ‘Medha’, that is intelligence, and the capability to retain.
In essence, Medha Suktam relates to the worship of Knowledge visualised as a Goddess, and has been commonly chanted as a prayer to Devi Sarasvati.
Durga Suktam: Durga Suktam, a potent suktam from the Yajurveda, is a worship to Goddess Durga as cosmic fire. The mantras therein, praise Her, help one to take refuge in Her, pray for removal of internal darkness, worldly difficulties and request Her to help cross over the life and seek blessings of pleasures so as to gain contentment.
